Behind the scenes with Dunes and Duchess

It takes a real mess to make one beautiful image.

I thought I would show you a little behind the scenes action from our Dunes and Duchess tabletop shoot we did right before Christmas. So here’s what a real photo shoot looks like: messy, disorganized, creative, and fun.

The shoot started off with me insisting we take pictures of the Christmas cookies we’d decorated with the boys. Dunes (a.k.a. Michael Partenio) arranged things on the table so they’d look just right for the camera. I featured one of the finished images in my post last week. Click here to see.

As we left cookies and moved on to Dunes and Duchess, Dunes insisted we needed a Manhattan (for photographic effects, it was after all, only noon).

Here are a couple of versions of the Dunes and Duchess Christmas shot. For the one we used on our web site click here.

And then of course we broke it all down and did New Year’s.

Ta-da! The result! Dunes just happened to have the hat left over from year’s past in his office. It really made the shot!

  1. such lovely styling. very festive and colorful!

  2. Beautiful!! Don’t know how many people actually realize how much work go into styling a shot. It is totally an art – or gift – but you’ve got it!!

  3. Absolutley fascinating! Love seeing how the photo shoot evolved. You’re right, that last shot is perfection!

  4. Stacy,

    Back atcha.
    Love this site.
    Hope to meet you.
Clever title and I know exactly what you mean; love that you break it all down. Beautiful shots.

  5. Ok that was fun to see! You and Michael looked like you two were having fun. Question: Where in the world did you find blue champagne? Or was it picking up the blue from around?

    • The blue champagne was from a friend’s new company that never really got off the ground. Too bad because it was such a great color to shoot!

  6. The two of you are so talented! There is so much effort, energy and talent that goes into creating the perfect image…and, you are ther perfect team!

  7. Gorgeous! Painting still lifes through the lense of your camera.
    How was the Bubbly?

  8. Happy New Year Stacy!
How fabulous and fun! Must be so great to see the images immeditately on the laptop! What a creative and talented couple you are! The last photo is stunning!

wonder how your friends got the champange to be blue???!

  9. I just loved the final version of your photo, the colors were so optimistic and happy! Great to see Michael in your post too, here’s to an AMAZING 2011 for Dunes and Duchess!
